TRAVELING
PATIENTS
If you are not from the Quad Cities Area and your local orthopaedic physicians do not offer the latest minimally invasive techniques, Orthopaedic Specialists will be happy to assist you. Our office is located a short 15-minute drive from the Quad Cities International Airport (MLI). Our helpful staff will be happy to assist you with your travel preparations, including hotel accommodations, transportation, and anything else you may need to make your stay more pleasant. In many cases, we can perform the planning and entire preliminary workup before you arrive to expedite your care. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are committed to making your visit as easy and convenient as possible.
Step One:
To begin the process, we ask that you contact us via email to discuss your questions, concerns, and expectations. You will be partnered with one of our highly skilled surgeons with a specialty in the condition for which you are seeking treatment. If you have already been diagnosed by another physician who advised traditional, open surgery, we might need to review your charts, labs, and test results, including any X-rays, MRIs, or nerve conduction studies.
At this time, we will also discuss insurance coverage for the procedure. Please note that our doctors offer complimentary consultations by phone and email. While phone consults are important, we understand that in certain circumstances email may be more convenient and can be just as effective for patients located overseas. We will strive to accommodate you as best we can. During these discussions, you will be provided with a surgical assessment and preliminary treatment plan. In some cases, the final assessment may require a phone call.
Step Two:
Once the surgery date has been confirmed we will schedule time for a preoperative visit to occur the morning of the procedure. We will have paperwork for you to review and complete before your arrival. Your surgeon will then perform a thorough examination and will discuss the procedure in detail with you. This is an excellent opportunity for you to ask any additional questions or voice concerns prior to the surgery.
Step Three:
After a brief postoperative visit, many of our patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery are able to leave the same or following day. Each procedure and patient is unique; therefore, the postoperative course and recovery times will vary. We will discuss your specific situation when the time comes. Furthermore, our office staff will plan the post-op visits around your schedule to make them as convenient as possible. Our physicians are committed to your postoperative recovery and will make themselves available as necessary. We encourage you to keep in touch with us via email during the recovery process, and if you return to the Quad Cities area, please pay our office a visit. We love to know how our patients are doing!
