Local Woman Recovers From 3 Joint Replacements in 1 Year With Plaza Physical Therapy
NEWS & BLOG ARTICLES
Tami B., 61, a dog grooming business owner, was once sidelined by intense joint pain. Since February, she’s undergone three life-changing joint surgeries: a hip replacement and two knee replacements. With support from her orthopaedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists and the dedicated team at Plaza Physical Therapy, Tami is back to full mobility and living life on her terms—including gearing up for pickleball.
“The Plaza Physical Therapy team did an awesome job,” she shared. “They were very good about accommodating your time frame—when you could get in and all that. I got to meet everybody. I almost felt like I worked there because I was there so much.” With a plan set with Matt Rokes, D.P.T., A.T.C./L., C.S.C.S., Jason Schultz, P.T.A., and Kelsey Dodd, P.T.A., Tami didn’t let anything stand in her way. She even dealt with a case of appendicitis between surgeries, but she did not quit at her goals.
“[My therapy team] would contact the doctor for me, if they felt something needed to be looked at or anything like that—they were really good and very attentive,” Tami said. “It's all been positive for me—thank goodness.”
Tami’s final joint replacement was in July, and she’s maintained a workout routine even after working through her physical therapy. She heads to the YMCA three days a week to stay strong.
“From the get-go, I said I don’t want to be in a scooter,” she explained. “I want to be able to be mobile and walking and taking care of my little doggies—all of them.” Today, Tami is back at her grooming business and enjoying some active, fun times with her own three dogs: a German shepherd, a Yorkie, and a dachshund.
She’s more active than ever and has big plans. “I told them from the beginning that I want to be able to get mobile enough to play pickleball,” she says. “I'm gonna be playing pickleball before I know it.”
Reflecting on her recovery, Tami adds, “It was a great experience, and if I would need to go and learn something else with my knees or something down the road, I would call them up in a heartbeat.”
